Maha Mandi T Shirt and Common Man

Mandi T Shirt - Common Man

Today  morning I went out to NITIE Campus gate, to a grocery shop to buy tea powder. I am pleasantly surprised to see the owner of the grocery shop wearing NITIE Mandi T Shirt. I was amused and forgot to buy Tea power the moment I saw this grocery shop owner wearing Mandi T shirt. Here the proof of the youngman wearing the T shirt. You can also see his grocery shop in the background. See the picture given below.

I asked the young man where and how he got NITIE Mandi T shirt. He replied that somebody working in NITIE gave him  Mandi  T shirt as a gift. I started asking some more details about  Mandi program @ NITIE if he knows about . But, he does not know the  funda behind the Mandi T Shirt and Mandi program at NITIE .  It was NOT surprising for me. He was only enjoying the pride part of Mandi T shirt by wearing it . I have seen more often most  of the people wear Mandi T shirt as piece of pride.  Same way, NITIE students also  wear the T shirt in pride too. My guess is that as on looker of so many NITIE students wearing the T shirt,  he is  also enjoying the same.

Along with me there was one NITIE  lady student was also there at the grocery shop. When I was interacting with the grocery shop person about the Mandi, NITIE lady student was happy to note my discussion with the young man. She told me that she is happy to know that  Mandi program  is happening during Oct 2013  and she is eager to participate in Mandi during October 2013. I sought her help to take this  picture of the youngman. She readily took the pic  and sent it quickly posted back to me by e mail.  Thanks to the lady student for sending this picture.

I am writing this blog for certain SPECIAL reasons.

My interest is NOT that somebody is wearing a Mandi T shirt.  Being the inventor of Mandi pedagogical T take pride when eve I see somebody wears Mandi flag. I have seen many a times many people wearing the T Shirt including  students, professors, security personnel, peons and staff of NITIE.  Purpose of my writing  this blog has special reasons. They are:

STORY OF UNEDUCATED YOUNG BUSINESS PERSON:

1. This gentleman who was wearing the Mandi T shirt does not know the purpose of the T shirt. He is so uneducated that he cannot read of what is written on the T shirt. Mandi T shirt has  a slogan:

Learn to Sell
and
Sell to learn

2. I feel sorry for the grocery shop young man. Because, this young man DOES SELLING every day and every time and all his life. To make a statement  - Selling is his life is not exaggeration. As he was running a grocery shop outside NITIE Gate, most of his life ( may be last 20 yrs or so of his life ..) he would have been  engaged in business. His competence as business is impeccable. However, he does not know  that he is such business brain. When he see a MBA and busiiness professor like me ( who do not the real world of business )  he pays respect and which I dont think he must pay to us. He is not aware of  the very purpose of Mandi T shirt which he is already epitome of it.

If I am left with ONLT one T shirt, if I have to give either to MBA student Vs. this young businessman.. I feel this  young man  who richly deserves to wear the T Shirt not my MBA student.

Thinking loud, I felt it is so common in this world, that persons who do the things and who richly know things.,  and who are real EXPERTS  are neglected and told them that are less intelligent and unfit people.  This makes them insignificant and unimportant. In case of grocery shop young man the same thing  happened.  On the other hand small band of people who do not know, who rarely experienced the real world,  working as a GANG, pose  as if they are experts and rule this world ! !

Comparison of  MBA student with that of  Grocery Shop  Young Man

Grocery Shop Young man

NITIE Mandi student

Business  is experienced fully
No  Experience of business but studied  it

Cannot Talk and present it in an interesting way

Talks and capable of presenting the business in an impressive way

Interest in Business is due to sustenance

Interest in Business  is for Marks and  grade and employment

 3. Slogan on  NITIE Mandi T shirt was printed with a purpose to inculcate, communicate and encourage NITIE MBA students  to get a feel of  BUSINESS through their participation in one day SELLING activity. The hope is that these so called   educated business brains ( MBA students )  will some how experience business through mandi program and learn and become business brains..It is only hope.

These students do engage in selling for one day and get awarded a certificate that they are the Masters of Business ! !..

Alas  ! !   What a paradox !

MBA students for show purpose, and as a fashion parade  and as academic  requirement engage in mandi field activity and that too for one single day and take Master of Business Program certificate . Where as the grocery shop owner who was involved in SELLING all his life is considered UNEDUCATED business person and who is declared UNQUALIFIED and his application if at all applied  for NITIE will be for sure  rejected. There is something seriously WRONG  with the existing system of learning in vogue.

4. The other aspect of the slogan - "  SELL TO LEARN ' is  much more interesting.  It is paradoxical to see TWO contradictory things here. Two persons - Grocery shop owner and my  own NITIE MBA student although  do the same thing i.e, SELLING but with TWO different mindsets and reasons.

The grocery shop young man DO engage in  SELLING  everyday and every time for the purpose of LIVING and EARNING and not for LEARNING. He end up as UNEDUCATED business man despite engaging in so much practice of doing business. Even, he might end up with, if only luck favours wealthy businessman but may not be EXCELLENT BUSINESSMAN compared to my NITIE MBA students.

Where as my NITIE  MBA student do engage in same  selling for the purpose of getting marks and grade and there on to get a NAUKRI. My MBA students never bother about LIVING as an important aspect.

7. A subtle point that needs to be noted here.

Why not, and what is the problem for NITIE MBA students to aim at  not only LEARNING but also EARNING ?
Why not and what is the problem for  the Grocery shop young man to focus not only EARNING but also LEARNING. Is it any thing wrong for both of them to aim at more than one thing at a time. Is not the mistake of both the people to focus on only short and limited things involved in Mandi ?Cannot we design an academic system which focus at the same time Learning and Earning? These are some of the questions which are pertinent and offer solutions in reforming education all across the world.

8. Grocery shop young man and the NITIE MBA students both are DOING the same mistake. The first one counts on earning not the learning. This results in the him becoming uneducated business man.  The second one counts on  learning and not the earning. This results him to emerge as economically dependent person on others  for all his life. These people become JOB MONGERS and SPINELESS SERVANTS devoting their life to corporates and other organisaitons as paid employees.   My point is that both are doing the same mistake. In reality both can avoid to do such  mistake,  if  only educational  systems are created with an idea to overcome these imperfections in the present system of education.

9. There is need to bring  together THESE two  worlds as one.. The world of MBAs and the world of grocery shop young man together to create UNBEATABLE LEARNING SYSTEM. It does not need anything NEW and or DIFFERENT . Onlything is that NITIE MBAs need to be made to work like NITIE grocery shop youngman.. On the other hand, enable the NITIE  Grocery shop youngman to take classroom lessons from  NITIE college. In reality, brining both the wrolds together is the A N S W E R..

Slogan - Sell To Learn

This part of the  slogan - Sell to learn - shares an important  fact that selling is the best method for learning. But Selling also offers  more than LEARNING .. i.e., ECONOMIC BENEFIT to the LEARNERS.This part is more often neglected and ignored and underplayed. In reality gaining economic benefit out of selling  is the REAL solution in making education AFFORDABLE, ACCESSIBLE, SUSTAINABLE, AND EXCELLENT ONE.  It is unfortunate that so called educated students and educating academics DO NOT realize this  SIMPLE TRUTH.

10. As a Mandi faculty I m not hopeful that grocery shop young man may learn business fundas.. But I am quite sure that NITIE MBAs can be made to learn and earn through  S E L L I N G.   I fond this much easier and sure way of doing.

Purpose of Mandi @ NITIE is an attempt to demonstrate this.
We are successful so far on this.
We are sure that we will show the world NEW PATH for EDUCATION.

  3. I totally agree with your point, he should not feel low talking to us being educated. I have experienced the same when people come to sell products at our door step. There was a lot I could learn from them. But since they do it for a living, they don't get to understand the importance of their skills, and their peers end up reiterating the fact that they are not educated. HENCE THE UNFORTUNATE DIFFERENCE
