How to start Dr Mandi Speech .. One more format to take up !
Good Morning ladies and gentleman,
1. Coming to my work and my story .. I m called Mandi Professor. This is how my students call me . Reason for this is.. simple.. What I do to them, What I do with them and what I do for them .
2. I m quite known for Doing LITTLE things that I do. Doing BIG and massive things is GOOD. I m not criticizing that. Before BIG things small things make you to look INSIGNIFICANT..
Little things help you to bring out INSANITY in you.. Little will make you feel SAFE, STRONG etc.. I m known for LAGHU things.. I look LAGHU .. know .. same way ! That way I might be called as.. LAGHU PROFESSOR ! Laghu Parishrama !
LAGHU is not SMALL.. LAGHU is very different !
Let me define what LITTLE means for me as a professor .. One Student, One subject learning, One time, and One day are the parameters that come to my mind . Not GDP, GER, IMR, Employment rates etc. etc. They are too big concepts !
3. When I joined as professor at Prestigious, National level an eminent institute , an Island of excellence, great track record , big name.. no body could point finger at it !
4. When I walked into the college, class, and when I watch the students, they are facing severe problems. They are no way different from the others. They are the same as all / all other college going students who are facing the problems .
It is in a sense they are dying.. They are looted, ruined, tortured, rejected, dejected, suppressed, They are just waiting for golden moments called ' Escape After Placement' ! Hundreds and thousands of students year after year happening the same ! I have seen it for quite 6-7- 8 yrs or so. For a person coming from Gavar, Mazdoor, Shoshit, Peedith background the experience I have come across was quite surprising !
5. Frustrated as a professor for my self ! I came with great mission to work in the great institution and great students ! My own making has its own reason for this. I was a tailor before I became a professor with a PhD in Management . Personally, what I went through was transformation. But work wise it was WASTE of my life which I was doing as a professor. Personally, I believe any other colleague of mine is also facing the same problem. But it is not the issue for them to recon with. They have many other priorities which I am least interested.
6. I realised that I cannot change the mighty academic system in place. It was not done by me. It was handed over long years back. I went throgugh the same process. It is tooooo big.. I m small and one part in the whole !
But I resolved that I might not be able to do as a PROFESSOR.. But at personal level I can do what best I can do. May not be as a PROFESSOR but as a good friend of my students what best I can ! It flashed in my mind that I can do something LITTLE .
7. Atleast for one student, one time, one day, one subject I was teaching I can do something as a PERSON.. not as a PROFESSOR. This is what struck me most. Minimum Level of Help that I can do.. When MINIMUM is construed as STANDARD for working it allows you to invoke your INSANITY !
8. I started one day program Field Sales Learning . Rule is that
- I designed the program the way I wanted it.. No conventional wisdom. I said NO to practice.
- Students must accept it. If they say YES.. it is YES.. these are the only two rules I followed.
It was called Mandi. I gave to my class students little quantity of Hi Impact learning aids ( Rs 200 - Rs 300 /) and assigned them to sell in market and to use the mandi experience for their learning .
9. It is completed low key affair. I arranged the merchandise on personal basis. No press, no inuguraitons and nothing .
10. Mandi went well. Students are quite happy with Mandi. They started making arrangements for the next year Mandi.. They started seeing it as INNOVATION in LEARNING. They started seeing me as a PROFESSOR came from TOP.. It surprised me.
I started feeling if such LITTLE thing has so much IMPACT on student learning, why not it will be done again and again and became really a PROFESSOR from HEAVEN !
- More students, More subjects, and More and more started pouring in to Mandi.. It became Maha Mandi..
11. An idea struck me.. If Mandi is liked by students, why not I ask other faculty also to be part of it .. I thought this will be the best thing I could do to them . Because, they will also become GREAT PROFESSORS . So, I approached them asked if they they will be part of Mandi.. they said .. NO.. NO..
Professors said Mandi is not learning.. it is sight seeing . I said students are saying it is serious learning. and please check it. They said .. no.. Serious learning cannot be like this.
I try to convince them and they try to pock holes in Mandi. Students started completely owned it. Students are not interested to loose it. This is the way TEACHERS repeat what they LEARNED and TAUGHT by their teachers . They are not in a mood to listen.
12. People ask me how Prof Mandi invented the Mandi method of earning . Initially it is difficult for me to give a systematic way to tell them how it is evolved. I started to answer in a best way, but still people dont understand it. In reality, Mandi is not TYPICAL ACADEMIC RESEARCH.. It is not ACADEMICALLY done. It is done INTUITIVELLY ! It came to mind and done !
13. If you look at Maha Mandi how and what rules are there we created with no collateral, no assessment, no training, no supervision, no spoon feeding, still students learn most and fantastic.. How you invented Mandi method of learning which you call Prof. Mandi method of learning .
